Squad Guidelines

Team and Squad Guidelines

The SCJB coaches' sub-committee shall initially invite up to 6 boys and 6 girls to additional “Team Squad” mid-week training. Team Squad Players are expected to attend the bi-weekly “Main Squad” (Saturday) sessions unless attending a County Match, tournament, National Training Camp, International competition or have a very good reason for not attending. A register of attendance shall be kept.

Players within the “Main Squad” shall remain under constant review and will compete for a place in the “Team Squad”. A system is in place to allow movement between both younger age group squads and for promotion from the “Main squad” to the “Team Squad”.

Decisions shall be made based on the subjective opinions of coaches, taking in to account potential to improve, tournament results, commitment, ability and any other factors the coaches consider appropriate.

Players selected for a “Team Squad” pay an additional payment for approximately 27 mid-week training sessions. You may only attend one “Team Squad” per week.

No player selected for the “Team Squad” will be demoted unless suspended under disciplinary procedures or SCJB have another good reason to remove a player. However; a player who is promoted, shall pay pro-rata from the date of promotion, unless they move from a younger age group's “Team Squad” for which they have already paid.

Players promoted to a “Team Squad” from a younger age group should still attend their own age group “Team Squad” training the week before a Match, or at least once a month if there are no matches in that month or by arrangement with their own age group coach. There is no additional charge for these sessions. These players will also be required to continue their own age group bi-weekly Saturday “Main Squad” sessions unless promoted to a higher age group's “Main squad”.

Guidelines for Movement Between Squads

Every Squad Member shall remain in their own age group for “Main Squad training sessions” and “Team Squad training sessions”, unless recommended to attend a higher age group “Team Squad” or “Main Squad” training by the lead coaches. This will be based on their subjective opinion of the player’s ability, potential to improve and other subjective factors.

The assessment for the higher age group “Team or Squad training” will be considered continually by the Coaches. The assessment for the promotion to your own age group Team Squad sessions will also be ongoing by that age group’s coach.

The coaches sub-committee’s decision shall be final. However, ongoing assessment will cater for players who improve rapidly within the season. Parents should recognise that our coaches have the relevant knowledge experience and expertise in their field and are therefore best suited to make judgements on moving players. Any comment on promotion should in the first instant be made to the age group coach for consideration.

Should a player be asked to attend a higher age group’s “Team” sessions then they shall pay a pro rata payment for the remaining number of sessions in that season unless having already paid for “Team Squad” training at a lower age group.
