Player Pathway

SCJB is committed to improving players and helping them to reach their potential. As such, SCJB would like to work together with the players, their clubs, coaches and parents by providing an "Annual Training Programme" for all the age groups for 2009/2010 season.

The programme is to be used as a guide only and, as such, there can be changes during the sessions and throughout the season. This is simply due to the fact that coaches may need to adapt to the flow of the sessions, circumstances and progression needs of the players. Each individual player is encouraged to take the ownership of their own development by communicating the on the topic with their personal coaches or club coaches. Where possible, the progression of all the training should be taken into consideration to maximise the learning outcome.

See the SCJB training programme for 2011/12 season.

Coaching

Within Sussex, each age group’s squad has a paid qualified CRB checked professional coach. They are paid from the squad fees and income generated from other SCJB activities. The coaches are contracted on an annual basis and are appointed by the committee of SCJB. The coaches have their own sub-committee which produces policies on selection and other matters and they act in liaison with the main SCJB committee.

We are lucky that we have very experienced and nationally recognised coaches working with your children. Within the county there are also freelance professional coaches who are available to provide private lessons. Some junior clubs provide coaching and there are several other organisations running academies (e.g., Hot-Shots and FastStep Badminton), performance centres (Horsham & Arun Club) and group coaching. Some schools also run after school clubs and breakfast clubs.

Find a club

SCJB would like to encourage players without a club to find a club nearby in order to obtain extra coaching and improve their badminton and social skills. Just turning up to county training is not enough.

The following are useful ways to find a club:The BADMINTON England Website contains details of all UK clubs that are affiliated to Badminton England. The Sussex County Badminton Website contains details of clubs located in Sussex.
