There were 109 players attending our County Trials held on Saturday 7th July at Portslade Sports Centre. Those successful players have been notified, and those unsuccessful will receive a feedback form. The Coaches were very pleased with the players' standard of play and the positive way in which the players responded to the routines. Sussex County Junior Badminton would like to thank all the parents, players, and clubs for their time and efforts.
Sussex County Junior Badminton has selected the following players to represent Sussex in the forthcoming 2007 Inter-County Tournament to be held at Nottingham University on 11 -15 April 2007:
Felicity Boyce, Bryony Morris, Kim George, Pippa Seymour, Kate Stephens, Mark Burtenshaw, Peter Dembrey, Tom Fenner, Jonathan Schofield, and Sean Such.
Following the successful submission of our funding application to Awards-For-All-England, Sussex County Junior Badminton has recently been awarded funds that would enable us to accomplish the various changes to the basic structure of Sussex Junior Squads, including the formation of the Sussex Team Training squads, the appointment of the paid professional coaches, and the formation of junior clubs in Sussex.
The award directly comes from the distribution of the National Lottery funds. Whilst in no way we are condoning gambling of any kind, especially to our junior members, we would make an exception in this case and ask parents to spend the loose change in their pockets in buying lotterly tickets!!!
is
looking for a volunteer to take on the role of Coaching Administrator in Sussex.
We have identified a need to have a database of Registered Badminton
Coaches in Sussex. This database would be added to the county web site so that
it can be accessible to people requiring information. The information would
cover such aspects as the availability, qualification level, and the type of
coaching offered.
The
immediate requirement is to create and populate a database from existing records
and then to update it on a regular basis.
It
would be an advantage to have a basic knowledge of the coaching structure but a
coaching qualification is not necessary.
This
role is seen as vital to the development and growth of badminton in Sussex.
For more information, please contact Derek Webb derek.webb2@ntlworld.com or 01903525969.
Please check the AGE-GROUP requirement to make sure that you attend the correct Trial session.
Sussex County Junior Badminton wishes all of you well, and the very best of luck to those entering the Trials.

The Team Challenge Finals were held at Luton Regional Sports Centre on 12 March 2005 (for the Under-13) and 13 March 2005 (for the Under-15). Whilst our Sussex Under-13 team could only managed to finish in the Eighth position (out of the 12 finalists), our Sussex Under-15 has finished the third best in the Country, after Yorkshire (first) and Nottinghamshire (second). Well done to all the players selected to represent the County.
Our best wishes to four of our Under-17 players: Sarah Boyce, Kevin Gill, William Hilton-Jackson, and Felicity Porter, who have been awarded the wildcards to compete in the ASICS Sussex National Elite Open at the Dolphin, Haywards Heath, on Saturday and Sunday 26 and 27 February 2005. We have raised a total of £511 from the sales of raffles tickets during our recent Under-15 and Under-13 Sussex JC tournaments on 8 and 9 January 2005. The funds have been donated in its entirety to the DEC TSUNAMI EARTHQUAKE APPEAL in memory of those people who have suffered terribly from the disaster. Our utmost gratitude to all the players, parents, donors, and contributors for making this possible.

Despite a disappointingly low turn-out, those who managed to be there witnessed some great games amongst England's top shuttlers. Simon Archer had to pull out at the last minute due to injury. Aamir Ghaffar (Middlesex), the current England No.1 and the Number 1 seed, won the Men's Singles beating the second seed Nicholas Kidd (Avon) 15-12 15-8. Julia Mann (Warwickshire) won the Women's Singles beating Elizabeth Cann 11-2 11-1. In the Mixed Doubles, the pairing of Robert Blair & Natalie Munt beat the New Zealand pair Daniel Shirley & Sara Runesten-Petersen 15-7 15-9. The New Zealanders entered the tournament in preparation of their participation in this week's Swiss Open and next week All-England Championship.
